Preparing for the graduation

Before I begin to speak about how the miming session went, i want to apologize about making this entry late . Back to the miming. Everyday I leave the workshop, I always have my mind thinking of new ideas, This is because in class, we think of new ideas for the miming skit we are going to do. The thing that me and my peers all know is that the ending product will be all of us graduating. Graduating in the skit its self but in a mythical way too . Graduating from the hard work and effort we put into miming. From all thwe thinking and out of our body expeirences. At the end of the skit, as we graduate, we're also going to feel proud coming out with something new we learned in our lives. Yesterday when I was getting ready to leave the workshop i was stopped by Greg. He said that he wanted to thank me for all the hard work i did and how wel i appreciate and understand the work he does. i said no thank you, if it wasnt for him I Wouldnt reach that level . When i walked out of that door, I realized in some sense i graduated!

envelopes

We didn't do anything new in miming today. We reviewed over the skit were doing , meta morphing bits of rituals. We did come to a crash with the adding more to the skit. We tried thinking of something different from the previous ritual we practiced , so that nothing connected . Every time we tried, we failed at it because in a way every ritual relates to every other ritual a bit . Hopefully next class we can think of something sillier so that the ending product is hilarious . Toward the end of the miming session , Luke came with envelopes and threw it at us as if it was a bomb or a secret mission, me and my fellow classmates got to excited . After handing over the secret envelopes , Luke swiftly put on his sunglasses and swaggered away as if he was the prisoner. It was hilarious until we opened the envelopes with our names on it . It ended up being a script and some thing more and better than some mission . It was a script about Luke discussing spiritual myths with the man who wrote about that. I liked it because it gave me a better understanding of the documentary we watched.

Metamorphing

Today in miming we reviewed on our facial reaction and form a solid surface around us . I was actually really proud of myself because Greg complimented me on my facial expressions when I pretended to hit myself against a wall. He said it was very funny. Then Jill complimented me saying i had a future in miming. I thought about it , though miming is fun, id rather using in my acting future. After we reviewed Greg talked about how Luke mentioned our ritual discussion. We began to list rituals and picked the ones that weren't hallow and "mime-able". Soon after we began to brainstorm ideas, eventually coming up with the idea of metamorphism. That any three rituals we enjoyed we would some how connect it , morph it into the other ritual, one after the other. One of the funny ideas were how we could pretend to kick a football in the air, look up at it,catch it , then suddenly be cradling a baby. These were only one of the many funny story lines we came up with. I liked doing this a lot because it gave me a better understanding of rituals and what they mean. It's nothing to you or your audience, if the ritual is hollow, because theres no connection. It doesn't matter if you say its a ritual, it matters how you do it, it's how you morph it into the true meaning behind it.

MIME

Fridays miming was so fun! We did robot miming which was at first complicated. Greg taught us step by step how to act like a robot. The trick is add more movements to the robot then the robot really needs . First reason, its funnier because it makes the robot look dumb. Second reason, Robots are very complexed so you want the audience to not be entertain by the realness of the robot moves. I felt it was easy towards the end to act like a awkward robot because of the direction Greg told us to go towards in the scene. The hard part of the lesson Friday was, the slow motion movements. The movement weren't too hard , it was the things we had to do with them . For example Greg told us to act like we were fighting. I tried to fight everyone , he told me that was a wrong thing to do because the people getting beat up is funnier then the one doing. Its all about the facial expressions. So next class that is my goal , to get better with my facial expressions .

Silent Noise

Oh my freaking gosh! If you had to ask me, to label how I felt today during the Mime workshop, in one word, I would say ,... EXHAUSTING! Though that does sound a bit terrible, it wasn't at all how I expected.I thought it was going to be boring and unusual. I was right about the unusual part . My body felt unusual more than I did. Greg challenged us to going to the extent of our body movement capabilities, (that was the exhausting part). I loved it because since I love to act, the miming techniques show you how to over act things for the audience, especially facial expressions. The stretching of the face upward and downward , making silly faces, was the most comfortable thing throughout the workshop because I'm used to doing that all the time . While learning how to surround your self in a box and out of it. I thought of something Luke once drew, STAC "think out side the box ". In this picture STAC was literally out side of the box, I related this to the miming session because in miming you have to think beyond normality. When you do that, you end up standing in another box of imagination and that is exactly what STAC is full of . I had a very fun time today with Greg Goldstone, he challenged me to express silence of normality into the noise of imagination.
